Al Green “Lay It Down” review

March 28, 2008

What do you get, when you have guest vocals from Anthony Hamilton, Corinne Bailey Rae, and John Legend, The Dap-Kings Horns, strings orchestrated by Larry Gold, and Amir “?uestlove” Thompson and fellow Soulquarian James Poyser on production? You get the new Al Green release “Lay It Down”. ?uestlove and James Poyser help create that old school Al Green sound, and make it sound like a Nu Soul release. This cd will be played in the SUV for a while. If you want to hear some new Al Green tracks, tune into Soul Conversations tonight at 12:30 am (est). Click me at 12:30 am (est) to listen online.

Throwback Video Thur. Stone Love feat. Supercat and Nicodemus

March 27, 2008

I was cleaning up the lab last night, listening to one of my old Stone Love cds. It took me back to my days growing up in the Q-Boro, taking the Dollar Van to Jamaica Ave. I had to show my Reggae Massive an old school Stone Love Dance Hall.

My partner from Def Jam, invited me to The Roots “Rising Down” listening event in Philly last night. The album is crazy!! It was a full house, I got a chance to talk to Truck North, (who is featured on the album) and I was eating Salmon on a stick which was left over for the after party!!!! Check the flicks below. And DC was in the house Bella 76, and Jefry Andres Wright.

ATLANTA R&B STAR ANTHONY DAVID SIGNED AS SOULBIRD DEBUT ARTISTKICK OFF ALBUM ACEY DEUCEY IN-STORES JUNE 17

(New York, NY, March 24, 2008)  The highly acclaimed singer/songwriter India.Arie has entered into a label deal with Universal Republic Records, with her new label to be called SoulBird Music.  India.Arie musical partner and R&B sensation Anthony David will be the first artist to release an album under the new banner, with his much anticipated major label offering, Acey Deucey, scheduled for in-store release on June 17.   “I’m excited that Tony will be the first artist to be released on SoulBird,” stated India.Arie, “Tony is a great talent and one of my oldest friends.  I have so many memories with him. Not only did he encourage me to start performing professionally, but it was Tony who suggested I use my first and middle name as an artist. There was even a time when he spent his rent money for me to experiment in the studio.”  Describing Anthony’s sound as ‘Bill Withers meets Mos Def,’  India.Arie adds, “ I love his music for how he speaks from a man’s emotional perspective in relationships, and his views on learning about life as a young man of the hip hop generation.” Monte Lipman, President and CEO of Universal Republic Records also comments,  “India.Arie’s vision and sensitivity toward artists makes her a natural to launch an enterprise like SoulBird, and Anthony David is the ultimate artist to christen the label. His tremendous poise and ability to deliver great R&B songs coupled with his great relationship with India.Arie uniquely positions him as one of our breakthrough acts this year. Everyone at Universal Republic is excited to be a part of this great new endeavor.”
